Glen Craney has written a compelling historical novel, The Yanks are Starving, about the "Bonus Army" of war veterans who, in the summer of 1932, at the nadir of the Great Depression, marched on Washington, D.C., in an effort to convince the U.S. government to pass a bill giving them the bonus money promised to them for their service in the First World War: My review of The Yanks are Starving has been published by the online magazine Compulsive Reader.
